XVII Science Week of the Community of Madrid

18 November 2017

In the Science Week, we performed a new workshop entitled "Maps in the faculty of treasure: spatial reasoning and orientation in real environments" for children between 6 to 12 years-old.

The children's aim in the workshop was to find a treasure following clues located in the Psychology Faculty with a map.
With this activity, we worked on spatial reasoning in their evolutionary and educational contexts. Maps allow us to think about relationships between objects, locations and much larger spaces than we can directly perceive with our vision. Through the use of maps, the children get an understanding about spatial environment by a mediated perspective, suggesting the use of spatial symbols to think about where an object will be found. In this way, we can promote the development of space cognition and learn to think the world through maps.
